Abstract

This research deals with the approach of the poem (La Taatather Amma Fa,alt) by the poet Mahmoud Darwish, a semiotic approach that seeks to identify the patterns of signs, evidence and symbols in the poem, and reveal what is implicit. The descriptive and analytical approach has been relied upon, in addition to embodying the principles of the semiotic approach because it allows the critic a broader range of thinking and more freedom in analysis, and places greater responsibility on him, as it requires understanding, vision and interpretation. The research focuses on the importance of semiotics, and the application of the method to the poem through the semiotics of the title, the semiotics of names and the subject, the semiotics of people (characters), the semiotics of time and place, and the semiotics of conscience. I was trying to delve into the significance of these matters to interpret and explain them, and I proceeded to analyze everything that could be considered a mark or sign of hidden and unrevealed things. The poet resorted to using it to express what is going on inside him such as loss, and a struggle between two selves (the old self / the present self) and trying to search for himself that separated from the place and then returned to it to find that his features had changed.
