Abstract
Objectives: The study aimed to identify the body image and its relationship with symptoms of compulsive buying among females in Irbid Governorate, Jordan. Methods: The descriptive analytical approach was used, and an available sample of (1500) women was selected, and two measures of compulsive buying scale and body image were developed, validity and stability of both scales were verified. Results: The results showed that the body image satisfaction among females was at a moderate level on the scale as a whole, as well as on all dimensions of the scale. The results also showed that the level of compulsive buying among females on the scale as a whole was moderate. The overall results of the body image satisfaction scale also showed that there were statistically significant differences. Among the sample members, this is due to the variables of age group and marital status, and there are no statistically significant differences among the sample members due to the effect of employment status and monthly income. While the overall results of the compulsive buying scale showed that there were statistically significant differences attributable to the variables of age group, marital status, and employment status, and the absence of statistically significant differences among the sample members attributable to the effect of monthly income, finally the results of this study indicated the existence of an inverse and weak correlation with statistical significance between body image and symptoms of compulsive buying. Conclusions: The study recommended providing counseling services and programs for females to resist compulsive buying and develop their body image acceptance.
