The impact of visionary leadership on strategic growth: the mediating role of corporate social responsibility on the retail sector in Jordan

Abstract
The study aimed to identify the impact of visionary leadership, in its different dimensions (vision, values, inspiration and empowerment), on strategic growth’s combined dimensions (expansion, innovation and sustainability). It also sought to explore the intermediate role of social responsibility in improving the impact of visionary leadership on strategic growth. The study relied on a descriptive analytical approach, meanwhile the survey respondents consisted of managers, chairmen and board directors in Jordan’s retail sector (large-scale consumer and foodstuff stores). A sample of 157 respondents was analyzed for the purpose of this research. The study reached a number of significant results. Some of the most noteworthy results include a statistically significant effect of visionary leadership’s different dimensions (vision, values, inspiration and empowerment) on strategic growth’s combined dimensions (expansion, innovation and sustainability) in Jordan’s retail sector. In addition, the research also concluded a presence of high mediation of social responsibility in the impact of visionary leadership on strategic growth. The study outlined a set of recommendations. Some of the most important include that companies in Jordan’s retail sector should continue to enhance the dimensions of visionary leadership in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness. It also recommended the requirement to foster a culture of social responsibility among employees and managers, in addition to raising their awareness of its role in increasing performance efficiency. Both these recommendations will help companies in Jordan’s retail sector to achieve the ultimate goal of strategic growth.
