Abstract

The current study aimed to reveal the counseling needs of adolescents in the Egyptian society and to clarify the differences in the counseling needs of adolescents according to some demographic variables represented in: gender (male- female), educational stage (secondary- university), and place of residence (rural- urban), as well as identifying the relationship between counseling needs and academic achievement, in addition to predicting academic achievement in light of the counseling needs of the study sample members. The main study sample consisted of (230) adolescents of both genders at a rate of (123 males) and (107 females), (88) are at the secondary level), (142 are at the university level), (99 are from the countryside) and (131 are from the urban). The members of the total study sample responded to the Counseling Needs Scale for Adolescents prepared by the researcher. Data were collected and analyzed using appropriate statistical processing methods. The results of the study indicated that the group of adolescents in the Egyptian society, whether at the secondary or university levels, and possess medium levels in counseling needs. The results also showed the absence of statistically significant differences among the members of the total study sample in counseling needs due to both gender and the educational stage, in addition to the existence of a relationship Significant correlation between the counseling needs and the academic achievement, and finally, the contribution of counseling needs (psychological needs) in predicting academic achievement among adolescents at the secondary and university levels of both genders.
