Abstract
The study aimed to identify the degree of use of psychological defence mechanisms and their relationship to academic achievement in distance education during the Corona pandemic. As well as determining if there are differences in the academic level of the university student according to the different level of using psychological defence mechanisms and knowing the differences in the type of mechanisms used according to the different level of academic achievement. Taibah University students were selected in a simple random way. The statistical methods of frequencies, percentages, t-test and ANOVA were used to analyse the study data. The results showed that the level of psychological defence mechanisms for female students of Tayeb University ranged from medium to high, and there is an effect according to the difference in the level of academic achievement on the defence mechanisms (daydreams, justification, projection, and the total degree of psychological defence mechanisms while there is no difference in the negative variables). The results of this study may add a lot to the competent and concerned authorities such as the Ministry of Education, university directors and psychological counsellors in setting up specialized persons to monitor the level of female students' achievement and the reasons related to low achievement, and in setting up special programs for guidance and direction to improve the student's ability to use psychological defence mechanisms and raise the level of academic achievement for female students, improving the level of distance education.
