The Value Chain as an Input Root Knowledge in Higher Education Institutions- An Analytical Study

Abstract
This paper discusses how to use the value chain approach to enhance the competitive advantage of higher education institutions. The study adopted the descriptive approach, through which competitive advantage was reviewed in terms of history, concepts, importance and strategies, as well as reviewing the concept and activities of value chain, its importance in institutions of higher education, and most prominent models. It answers the following questions: What is the conceptual and intellectual framework for competitive advantage in higher education institutions? What is the conceptual and intellectual framework for value chain in higher education institutions? What are the most prominent global models of the value chain in higher education institutions? The results of the study found that the value chain approach should be adopted in order to enhance the competitive advantage of higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman. So that they can achieve their roles and excellence, keep pace with ongoing progress, and achieve strategic excellence for higher education institutions competing in educational and research services provided to clients to ensure a larger market share. The study recommended that the application of modern programs should be adopted to develop academic skills among faculty members, through cooperation with distinguished consultants from international universities. It also recommended developing university legislation and regulations, developing university infrastructure, and investing and participating in national projects.
